Cares Act Economic Assistance Program

APPLICATION

The Seldovia Village Tribe’s CARES Act Emergency and Disaster Relief Economic Assistance Program is designed to provide non-taxable economic relief to eligible enrolled Tribal Members of the Seldovia Village Tribe, where such relief should be used for emergency needs incurred due to the COVID-19 public health emergency only, such as to maintain adequate housing, transportation, food, water, medication, medical care, utilities, and basic life necessities. This economic relief is intended to help alleviate the financial hardships endured from loss of income and increased costs due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Funding for the Program is being distributed from the CARES Act funding received by the Tribe and this Economic Assistance Program is designed to comply with the CARES Act requirements and guidance issued by the US Department of Treasury.

Eligibility:

▪ Seldovia Village Tribe enrolled adult Tribal Member who has attained the age of 18 years, completes and submits the attached application, and is assessed by the Tribe to be in need of economic assistance due to the COVID-19 public health emergency.

Tribal Enrollment

Open enrollment for the Seldovia Village Tribe is from July 1st to September 1st each year. Any blood descendant of any person who was originally enrolled to the Native Village of Seldovia, under the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act, is eligible for membership.

You can either email or hand deliver your completed application with a photocopy of your birth certificate to the Tribal Offices (see link below for printable pdf).

Scholarships

SVT’s scholarship program awards achievement scholarships of $1,500 to eligible full-time students attending an accredited college or university in two-year or four-year undergraduate degree programs. SVT also offers a student exchange program scholarship of $1000 for students studying abroad and trade school scholarships of $500.

General Assistance

Short-term financial assistance is available to Alaska Native/American Indian people living in Seldovia area who are members of an Indian Tribe. This assistance is meant to help people make ends meet while seeking other income or financial assistance. SVT offers a General Assistance Work Program in which eligible members perform work for grant funds received by the Tribe. Qualifications are:

  • Member of an Indian Tribe
  • Residing in the Seldovia Area
  • Individual and family not eligible for AFDC, SSI/Interim assistance, or Adult Public Assistance
