The Alaska Tsunami modeling group has updated the tsunami hazard map of Seldovia using the most recent (2020) lidar-derived digital elevation model, which allowed for more accurate tsunami runup modeling. This resulted in a larger extent of modeled tsunami inundation in some wooded areas and along narrow gullies in Seldovia area.

The map is intended to assist local emergency officials in disaster response planning. As the next step, we propose to work with the community on development of the tsunami evacuation line, which will be included in the brochure “Know your tsunami hazard in Seldovia”. The brochure will also include information on local tsunami hazards, tsunami preparedness, educational resources and community contacts.
